Trauma Center of Washington Medical Center (MedSTAR) in D. C., explained that “trauma is the third major cause of death in our country and trauma patients need a fast-moving diagnosis to save their lives.” Since the formation of MedSTAR in 1976, the death rate from trauma has been cut 50 percent.
In the event of trauma from a sudden physical injury caused by external force or violence, a well equipped emergency vehicle with emergency medical technicians initiates the rescue. They contact the nearest hospital and the patient is moved by ambulance and the most critical are transported by helicopter to MedSTAR.
There Dr. Champion and his team of specialists do their best. He said, “The future lies with organizations like EM SC. To save lives, we must work as a team.”
At the conclusion of the meeting Paul Poling of Amissville was named president of EMSC for 198182. He is also a representative to the State EMS Advisory Council to the Governor and is treasurer of the Virginia Federation of EMS Councils.
