Kilpatrick pointed out that every census taken between 1880 and 1970 showed the county losing population. But according to the 1980 census, Rappahannock finally reversed the 90 year trend and increased its population by 20 percent. That 20 percent growth will be reflected in a larger schoolaged population as well, Kilpatrick predicted.
Another parent noted that lack of space at the high school has restricted course offerings to the point that incoming eighth graders need a recommendation from their seventh grade teacher in order to get into the single eighth grade history class offered.
Due to lack of space, 45 students who wanted to take the course will not get a third year of mathematics while first, second and third year art students are all squeezed into a single art class.
