How can a Golden retriever turn into a gold mine? Apparently, by developing an obsession for chasing the round plastic disc of a frisbee. Brad Fisher reported that one of his lab technicians at the Greater Washington j Suburban Sanitary Commission has a dog who won $1,500 in one season competing in frisbee contests, enough to keep the canine in biscuits and flea powder for a couple of years.
The Fishers are interested because their Golden retriever Buffy puts on an aerial ballet every evening in the back yard of their Washington home, an air borne exhibition that matches professional frisbee dog standards.
The dog, a friendly, wellbehaved three-year-old who keeps her boundless energy under control at a single word, waits nightly at the Fishers’ back door for Brad to come home from work, a frisbee clamped tightly in her jaws.
It doesn’t matter how hot it is — the temperature could be in the 90’s with the humidity level only a step behind. Buffy will still chase a frisbee as long as she can find somebody to toss it, leaping two feet into the air and twisting her body into a pretzelin order to come down with the prize in her mouth.
