Minoru Oda is from a small town but rural Japan is a far cry from rural Rappahannock where he’s spending a mong and a half with Diana and Lee Bird of Washington as an exchange visitor through the Experiment in International Living.
“My first impression is that people live quite far from each other. I couldn’t believe that it would take so much time to visit neighbors,” Minoru said, flashing a wide smile. “1 was told American people live in such a way but I couldn’t imagine until I saw it for myself. People drive such long distances!”
Minoru himself has logged quite a few miles since arriving in New York a week ago. After four days in that sprawling metropolis, he spent three days sightseeing in D. C. and then headed out to the country where he’s been on the move since.
