“March at sunrise and take the road to Front Royal. The day is very hot and our march fatiguing in consequence of the difficulty of the trains moving on this road. Halt very frequently. The road to Chesters Gap is very hard marching and the mdst remarkable sights were presented by every man before he had reached Front Royal. The dust had completely changed his complexion and with his white hair, eyebrows and lashes, streaked face when the sweat ran down, a demon or ghost could not have looked worse. Passed through Front Royal and made no halt.”
