Department’s markup, and an adjustment in warehouse handling charges.
Of the 831 items carried on the Department’s price list, 610 will increase in price by amounts less than 25 cents, while 155 items will go up 25 cents or more. The prices of a number of other items will remain unchanged or be lower, principally close-out merchandise.
Although there have been increases in prices' periodically as a result of passing on manufacturers' higher charges, this will be ,thc.-first -general price in- < crease made by the Department since 1979. The increase is due primarily to the rise in operating costs.
The change raises the markup on distilled spirits one percent—from 3b'A percent to 37Vj percent—and from 40 percent to 43 percent on wine. The handling charge , will increase from 60 cents per case to 80 cents.
