Reading from a prepared statement, Eastham said that public school teachers have the most important job of all occupations and that those who measure up to the responsibilities deserve fair compensation.
But despite efforts in recruitment and selection of teachers and despite on-thejob assistance, all teachers do not meet the same standard of excellence, he said, leaving no realistic alternative but adoption of differentiated pay for differentiated performance.
