for the 18th district seat has been critical also of what he alleges has been lack of effort on Guest’s part in working for industrial development in the area.
”A delegate does not sit back and say ‘Industry—pick up and go over there’,” Guest maintained. “I will respond to and work with a locality that wants to attract and develop industry but the initiative should rest with the locality.”
In the current campaign, Guest said, he’s found concern and desire for industry in Page County. He noted, however, that he’d heard only from town officials and “not word one” from the board of supervisors of which Catron is a member. To attract industry, Guest said, a locality should have a site with road access, rail access, an ample supply of water and sewer connections. There must be people willing to work and the site should be reasonably close to an interstate, he added. “A delegate can help a locality to become competitive (in attracting industry) but the main point is that it’s not up to a delegate to dictate to a locality or to an industry,” he concluded.
