The Commission on Outdoor Recreations in Richmond Tuesday officially approved a $63,837 matching grant that will give Rappahannock its first county park.
The money will be used to build two tennis courts, a basketball court and riverside picnic area at the recreation center on Route 211 across the highway from the town of Washington.
The local share of the matching grant is being provided through donation of the six-are site to the county.
The Rappahannock Recreation Authority made the grant application with authority member Douglas Baumgardner presenting the proposal to the COR board on September 22.
According to Rec Authority member Diane Bruce, the authority is now in the market for an engineer or architect. Anyone interested in the project should contact her at the clerk’s office, telephone 675-3621.
