“We must also take a regional approach to the problem,” Ravlin adds. “If there is a storm system moving this way through an area of high infestation, then we have to be prepared for the possibility that the moth will enter the area. Also, if there are areas of infestation close to the state, we should know that. Unfortunately, the gypsy moth does not recognize state or county boundaries.”
Fortunately for Virginia, other states have had similar problems and “we can learn from their mistakes," Ravlin says.
