In response to Eastham’s proposal, school board member Nelson Lane said he liked the idea of merit pay but saw problems with mechanics of instituting such a system.
Board member Nancy Reeve added that she’d recently read information which led her to question the advisability of- adopting a merit pay system. Studies show that increased pay does not necessarily bring better performance, she said.
Reeve acknowledged that employees require a certain level of compensation in order to meet financial needs. But beyond that level, appreciation seems to get more of a result than salary raises in terms of improved per(Continued
