Since it opened in 1978, Patrick O'Connell's and Reinhart Lynch's restaurant has won rave notices from food critics at the old Washington Star. the Washington Post and a list of Virginia newspapers from as far away as Lynchburg, Epicures have bombarded Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazine with recipe requests for the masterpieces that O'Connell creates in The Inn's kitchen.,In 1980, the Washington, D.C. chapter of the International Wine and Food Society wrote “Everything was absolutely perfect" after holding its annual dinner meeting at The Inn. When Ronald Reagan flew into Rappahannock for a visit with columnist James J. Kilpatrick, strawberry tarts prepared by kitchen assistants Joyce Smoot and Josephine Aylor were delivered to the Kilpatrick's home tor the President’s dessert.
