During 1980-81, 19 students (4.2 percent) out of an enrollment of 456 at Rappahannock County High School dropped out. A smaller ■> percentage of children left school here than in neighboring counties where rates ranged from 4.6 percent in Page to 6.7 percent in Culpeper and Fauquier.
The state’s high school drop-out rate for the same period was 5.3 percent.
Seventy-two percent of the ninth grade class in 1977-78 went on to graduate from RCHS four years later, according to Facing Up. Among neighboring counties, only Warren with 78.7 percent had a significantly higher percentage of 1977’s ninth graders to graduate in 1981.
Culpeper and Fauquier had 70.1 percent. Madison 72.3 percent. Orange 65.6 percent and Page 61.7 percent.
On standardized tests administered to fourth, eighth and 11 graders in 1981. Rappahannock students fell an average of 7.5 percentile points lower than the state average when compared to national norms.
On ability measurements and assessment tests in reading, language arts and math given to the three grade levels. county students ranked higher than students in the state as a whole only in language arts at the 11th grade level.
Fourth graders here were in the 44th percentile in ability. 51st in reading and math and 56th in language arts. Eighth graders fell in the 46th percentile in ability, 42nd percentile in reading, 41st in language arts and 37th in math. Eleventh graders were in the 34th percentile in ability. 41st in reading, 46th in language arts' and 35th in math.
