Named in honor of Auguste Escoffier, “The King of Chefs and the Chef of Kings” who is widely recognized as the greatest culinary artist of the modern age, Les Dames is dedicated to the furtherance of careers in gastonomy for women. It was founded in the late 1800s in Paris as an answer to the exclusive all-male wine and cheese societies which refused admittance to women. Branch chapters of “foodies,” as the members refer to themselves, have been established in the past few years in New York. San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago and Washington.
