So she had to disregard this important advice and instead pick a location where rents were reasonable—on South Royal Avenue. So, with no foot traffic and no parking, she opened. A group of friends, fueled by beer and pizza, painted, cleaned and remodeled the cheerful building that became the original store. Another friend designed the logo, garden and sign. She’s expanded since then, adding an adjoining room that now houses her used book collection.
