Providing all these services has helped the bookshop work, but the demands' on time and energy are enormous. “It’s hard to explain to someone who’s not in the same business.’’ Nan said. “You would have to love it to' do it.”
And there are rewards: “For me, it’s getting the right person and the right book together.
“Sometimes a little kid will come in here for weeks to look through a book he loves. Then, one day, he’ll come in and empty his change on the counter. Then I know that it’s worth it.”
