The proposed line from Luray to Sperryville would be part of the loop Pot-Ed operates between Front Royal and Gordonsville and through Sperryville. The new line would carry 172.5 KV. The old line has 34.5 KVs.
Supervisor Pete Estes pointed out the Pot-Ed argument that the present line is at 80 percent capacity now and that additional lines must be built before power demands reach maximum power production.
“If they can prove the need,” Estes said, “then I don’t see any wasteful expenditures.” Estes doubted that the SCC would find otherwise were the commission to hold necessity hearings.
Estes abstained from voting, saying he didn’t have enough information and that a representative from the power company should have been included in the discussion.
“This doesn’t affect them,” answered H.B. Wood. “We’re just asking.”
