Bloodmobile

The Fauquier Chapter of the American Red Cross which serves Fauquier and Rappahannock counties will sponsor a bloodmobile at the National Guard Armory on Waterloo Road in Warrenton Thursday, September 22, from noon to 6 p.m.
Summer is always a difficult time for blood collection because so many prospective donors are away from home on vacation. Conversely, summer makes great demands on blood supplies because of heavy automobile traffic and a consequent increase in road accidents which frequently require blood transfusions in emergency treatments.
This summer has given the Fauquier/Rappahinnock Chapter particular difficulty. In past years, a midsummer bloodmobile at the Armory has always been one of the most productive toward meeting the annual quota. But the bloodmobile at the Armory in July had to be closed down early because of intense heat. Against a goal of 100 units (pints) for that blood drive, only 70 units were collected.
To meet its goal of 1,450 units by next June 30, the < chapter up to this point should have collected 180 units. It has collected 123, just two-thirds of the amount needed.
A blood donor may be anyone between the ages of 17 and 65 who has not donated blood for two months and has not had any injections, including penicillin, in the past two weeks.
