Col. Evan A. McNear

Colonel Evan A. McNear, USA, died Wednesday, May 16, 1984, at his home in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was 71.
Colonel McNear volunteered for active duty, February 1942, with a reserve commission of 2nd Lt. In 1945, he was among the first 9500 integrated into the Regular Army and at that time decided to make the Army his career. He retired from military service in 1968 with the rank of Colonel at Vint Hill Farms Stations in Warrenton and since then has been a resident of Rappahannock County where he operated Greenwood Farm and served as Zoning Administrator for 13 years. He was a native of Harrisburg, Pa.
McNear graduated from John Harris High School, Harrisburg, Pa., University of Maryland, Basic and Advanced Infantry Schools, General Staff and Command College, Strategic Intelligence School, Business and Management. He served 3 tours in the Pacific Theater, one in the European Theater and various assignments in the states.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; son Richard McNear of Washington; daughter Nancy Weitz of Rochester, Michigan; a brother, Maxwell McNear of Hampton and six grandchildren.
Burial was held at the Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 22,1984.
