member of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter NSDAR, who died November 1983 was one of the 172 NSDAR members in the state memoralized at the convention. Mrs. Jane Kearns of Culpeper participated in the memorial service as soloist. The 1985 State Convention will be held in Norfolk.
Mrs. Dale Metzinger of Sperryville, Mrs. Zillah Gutowski of Culpeper and Mrs. Edgar Puryear of Madison gave the highlights of the National Convention held in April at Constitutional Hall in Washington, D.C.
The speaker for the opening of the convention was Vice-Prsident Bush who left soon after for Geneva to participate in the conference on Chemical Warfare. William Simon, former Secretary of State and low chairman of U.S. Olympic Commission spoke at the National Defense luncheon. Other recognized speakers were Alex Hailey, author of “Roots”, and Senator Jeremiah Denton of Alabama.
The June 12 meeting of the chapter will be held in the Culpeper United Methodist Church with Mrs. Philip Cox and Mrs. George Taylor as hostesses.
