mg prop, it detracts from the author’s intention of internalizing the dialogue into the player’s consdouness. Alter all, audiences know what an “aside’’ is without the aid of a T.V. Instead of ! tbattghfefmvaidtig*, player’s scrambling for the remote-control gadget shattered the continuity of their thoughts as well as those of the audience.
The music, also written by Mr. Kolvak, was more accidental than incidental. It was eerie and loud but, did not contribute to setting the mood of cerebration which this play requires. The play should be performed without an intermission to sustain the emotion created by the characters in a continuous crescendo to its inexorable de-nouement. (It would also prevent half-time dropouts, of which there were many.) Please, Mr. Kolvak, do not tamper with works of art. Sartre’s themes are still modem and do not need the pejorative manipulations which you have given it.
It is significant that an important existentialist philosopher like Sartre felt compelled to write plays as well as novels. The dramatic
