If you are outside in open country, move away from the approaching tornado at right angles, if possible. Never attempt to outrun a tornado. If there is no time to move and find suitable shelter, leave your car and lie flat in the nearest depression, such as a ditch, culvert, excavation, or ravine and cover your head with your arms. Never remain in cars, busses, trucks or other vehicles which can be picked up by the tornado. Avoid large trees, metal poles and other possible electrical conductors.
