When the Republicans gather for their state convention in Hampton at the end of next week, their mood, to the casual observer, will appear upbeat and ebullient.
Their great good cheer as the convention approaches is entirely understandable. Nationally they see President Reagan winning over any Democratic opponent with relative ease. They especially relish the thought—and cherish the hope—that his opponent in November will be former Vice President Walter. Mondale.
In the U.S. Senate race in Virginia, they are similarly confident that Sen. John Warner will dispatch the Democratic nominee with equal facility.
