One Sentenced
On Term Day
Judge W. Shore Robertson sentenced one man during term day on May 14. Craig W. Kenyon, 18, of Slate Mills was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county jail, beginning the day after he graduates from Rappahannock High. In addition, Kenyon will be on probation for three years, and will complete 50 hours of community service.
Kenyon had been indicted on two counts of felony and two misdemenors that occurred on March 3 during the Rappahannock Races. Both felony charges were reduced to misdemeanors prior to sentencing. Kenyon pleaded guilty to all four counts of misdemeanor.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke, who recommended amending the felony charges, addressed the court with his reasoning. Luke said that Kenyon had no previous criminal record, had cooperated with authorities and that all stolen property, had been returned to its owners. In reducing the charges, Judge Robertson cautioned Kenyon, “Once you’ve been here, the penalties will be stiffer and harsher,” he said.
