Polls Open At 6 A. M.
The polls open at 6 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6, Ruth Kilby, registrar, reports. Residents must vote by district in the following locations: Jackson District, Amissville Fire Hall; Hampton District, Washington courthouse; Piedmont District, Sperryville Firehall; Stonewall-Hawthome District, Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church; Wakefield District, Flint Hill Firehall.
Special hours for absentee voting have been announced, too. The registrar’s office will be open Thursday, November 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, November 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on voting, contact the registrar’s office at 675-3739.
• Water Shut-Off Work Begins
The Town of Washington should have as many as eight water shutoff valves operative soon. Work began October 25 to correct the nagging ' problem cfwr water in Washington when even minor leaks occur in the system.
According to Brad Fisher, vice mayor of,Town Council, town officials recently discovered six shut-off valves already exist in the town’s water-supply network. The discovery was made when going over maps of the town’s nearly 50-year-old system. All six valves had been paved over and forgotton years ago, Fisher said.
Working on the project were Steve Critzer and Thurman Whorton, who uncovered two of the valves last Thursday. If the weather is good, ah six should be reopened and, if necessary, repaired soon, Critzer said. Two new shut offs also are on tap for the project.
