Harrison has proposed an agenda for her Senate campaign, on environmental issues, controlling the budget deficit, improving education and arms control, among others.
Her environmental proposals include improving enforcement of the Clean Air Act and better control of toxic waste disposal and storage.
To bring the budget deficit under control, she said, includes seven proposals to reduce spending, and a tax reform program “to materially increase federal revenue without creating burdens for middle-class taxpayers.”
She wants to contain health care costs, cut down on commodity price supports, as well as improve management and procurement procedures.
In terms of tax reform, she supports a fair tax bill that would simplify the laws by establishing essentially three brackets—14, 26 and 30 percent—and eliminating tax shelters while maintaining certain deductions such as mortages and charitable contributions.
Harrison and Warner differ sharply on arms control. Harrison supports a mutual, bilateral and verifiable nuclear freeze, and negotiation of a verifiable treaty banning anti-satellite weapons.
She said Warner has voted to “spend us weak” by supporting vulnerable first-strike nuclear weapons at the expense of conventional ones.
