Against a backdrop of mountains and fall leaves, John W. Warner came to the microphone at Rock Hill Farm near Front Royal earlier this month.
“For 50 years I have grown up in this beautiful part of this beloved part of our Commonwealth of Virginia,” he told a cheering crowd of Republicans, and had “farmed just down the road” in Fauquier County for nearly a quarter of a century.
“I flew in by helicopter today and I’ve never seen such grandeur in a long time as Virginia reveals today — verdant fields, the first touch of fall,” he said, asking those in attendance to be “greatful to the good Lord” for the “bountiful growing season” that farmers had this year.
“And this brings to mind my desire to return to the Senate next year as your senator . . . ,” he added, providing an example of what Republicans are displaying on the campaign trail this year The politics of optimism.
