He spent four and a half years in Asia and Japan (three years as a civilian), three years in the Middle East and nine months in Central America as an Air Force detachment commander. He served nearly 28 yean in the Air Force; inactive duty accounted for only six of those years, he said.
After months marching alone on the campaign trail, Frazier believes his "star has risen.” He said voters know who he is and are beginning to know what he stands for. He attributed this to "fair, unbiased treatment” from the media.
“People have looked at me, winked, and said, ‘Good for you’,” he said.
The 59-year-old candidate has gotten his message out on a slim budget and a strident campaign. "I’ve got $319.90 left in my checkbook,” he chuckled, noting that other than a $5 contribution from Pete McCoy, his barber in Charlottesville, he has financed the campaign himself.
Frazier said he anticipates spending $4,000. To get on the ballot, the independent garnered nearly 1,500 signatures verified by the state Board of Elections. To qualify for the 7th District race, he needed 1,106.
