If it looks like it’s feasible to develop the very effective defense mechanism, I’m in favor of it — if it’s economically and technologically feasible ... If this defense is largely effective against incoming missiles, the defense may have an advantage. That’s good for the chances of peace and a far greater deterrent to the beginning of nuclear war than we now have.”
