Rappahannock High School’s Cross Country Team ended its regular season on October 22 with a win over Stonewall Jackson and Brentsville. The final score was Rappahannock, 26, Stonewall Jackson, 36, and Brentsville, 71.
“We rejoiced after that meet,” said Coach Ann Spieker. “Stonewall Jackson had beaten us earlier by 10 points, and now we’ve beaten them by 10 points.” Ronnie Atkins came in first for Rappahannock and second behind a Stonewall Jackson runner.
The remaining Rappahannock runners placed as follows: Ricky Shaw, I third; Jonathan Watson, sixth; Bobby ■ Ludwick, seventh; John Dodson, 11; Marley Hay, 12; David Fishbein, 13; Patrick Coffey 19; Neil Burke, 21; Tony Clark, 22; Tom Taylor, 23; David Fisher, 25; and Mike Dunn, 26. The team’s record for the season was 9-2.
The Bull Run District Meet was held on October 25, and Rappahannock placed second. “The district meet was fruitful for the team,” said Spieker. Former Resident Inducted Into NHS
Jacqueline Wayland, a junior at Luray High School, was one of 28 Luray students recently inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS). She formerly attended Rappahannock County High School.
Students must have a 3.3 grade point average or better to qualify for the society.
Wayland resides with her mother, Nancy Wayland, and her brother, Jay, in Luray. The family is formerly of Sperryville.
