Daniel French Slaughter Jr. has waged one of the longest and most expensive congressional campaigns in 7th District history.
In the 10 months since he announced his candidacy on Feb. 1, Slaughter has raised and spent more than $390,000 in his bid to succeed fellow Republican J. Kenneth Robinson, of Winchester, who will retire at year’s end after seven terms.
A Culpeper attorney, Slaughter spent $100,000 in a preconvention campaign to defeat five rivals — attorney Guy O. Farley Jr., of Warrenton, foremost among them — in an arduous fight for the Republican nomination, which he won May 12.
