(Continued from Page 1) campaign workers admitted an inaccuracy in a radio advertisement about the most controversial of those issues — the involuntary sterilization of the mentally ill. The ad attacked Slaughter for opposing a bill which would have repealed part of the legislation providing for involuntary sterilizations. What the ad did not say is that Slaughter voted for the bill alter it was amended by the Senate.
Costello campaign manager Tom Vandever said Costello supports the use of involuntary sterilization —but only as a last resort. Slaughter’s record indicates that he supported the use of involuntary sterilization in much broader terrms, such as for epileptics, said Mr. Vandever.
Reports filed by both candidates indicate Costello and Slaughter have waged the most expensive campaign ever for the 7th District seat. Costello said he has raised $200,000 so far, Slaughter about $390,000.
