nock Hunt Club for five years. “It’s too hot, and the hounds can’t keep a scent because the trail drys quickly.”

Horses and riders were visibly drained upon their return to Stonehaven following the hunt. Riders each wore the traditional wool coats of various colors despite a brilliant sun beating heavily down on horse and rider. “You have to be a seasoned rider (to take it)” Mr. Muth offered.

After horses and hounds were attended to, hunt club members took to refreshments and casual conversation, most passing the remainder of a too-hot October afternoon in a shady place. Joint Masters Dahlgren and LeHew summarized the day as a success. Said Mr. LeHew: “I’m never disappointed. I’m just happy to get on a horse and get out.”
