If we were to stay with the 1973 ordinance and then try to “fix” it, we would wind up with practically the same document as the proposed ordinance. This proposed document is the “fix” of the 1973 ordinance. Each of us may have some minor quarrel with a particular provision of the new ordinance, but as Mr. McNear said at the public hearing, zoning is the attempt to balance the desire to do anything we want with our property against the needs of the entire community for safe and compatible land uses that protect the property values of all our property. He further said that no two people would draw the line for that balance at the same place. Each of us should let the supervisors know what our quarrel with the draft ordinance is, and where it is justified, I am confident that the ordinance will be so amended, as it has already been done in many instances.
But it is equally important that we let the supervisors know that we support them in their attempt to protect our interests. Due to the nature of this controversy, our silence will not be taken as approval. 1 urge you to take the time to vocally support the basic concept of this competent, and necessary, proposed zoning ordinance.
