Historical Society Meeting
“Rappahannock Schools Before Consolidation” will be the subject of a panel discussion at the regular quarterly meeting of the Rappahannock Historical Society on Friday, November 2 at the Society’s building on Gay Street. Meeting time 7:30 p.m.
Former principal of the elementary school and long time teacher in the county, Mrs. Mary Quaintance; still teaching, and former teacher at the Scrabble school, Mrs. Dorothy Butler, and retired teacher Miss Mary Miller Wood will be the speakers.
A lively discussion with audience participation will be the order of the evening. Come to hear about teaching in two room school houses, segregation and county wide commencement services. The meeting is open to the public.
Harvest Dinner Planned At Sperryville
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be having a Harvest Dinner on Saturday, November 3, at the fire hall.
The menu consists of roast turkey with the trimmings, a variety of vegetables and desserts, rolls, butter and beverages, all for the price of $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12.
Carry out dinners will be available from 4:30 p.m. till 5:15 p.m. with dinner served at the fire hall from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Tickets are on sale by members of the auxiliary and can also be purchased at the door.
Trip To Atlantic City
Fauquier County Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a trip by chartered bus to Atlantic City, New Jersey on Wednesday, November 14. The bus will leave from Fauquier High School at 6 a.m. and will drop participants at the casino at approximately 10 a.m. Participants will be on their own until meeting the bus for the return trip, arriving back at Fauquier High approximately lfr30 p.j*, Ccetqf the, trip is $20 pw person. Registration is limited to the first 45 adults to register and pay at the Parks and Recreation Office, 14 Main Street, Warrenton.
“People That Love Center” Open
“People That Love Center” under the direction of Sally Dunphy is open each Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Center is located ih the old school building on Mt. Salem Avenue, Route 626 off Route 211 in Washington.
The program is designed to offer food, clothing, furniture or other emergency assistance to those in need. For further information phone 987-8505.
