“I have a hard time with us having to go and borrow money when three quarters or two thirds of what we’re going to borrow is owed to us,” Kramer said. “I feel that there should be an interest charge and that some action needs to be taken.”
The council voted to have a one and a half percent a month interest charge assessed on accounts over a month old. ‘‘If there’s nothing else we need to do on that, then it will start tonight, but if there is something else we have to do to make it legal, we’ll do it,” Kramer said.
For the accounts that are currently due, Fisher was authorized to develop appropriate payment plans with the understanding that settling the matter in court will be a last recourse.
