pervisors last week voted to hire the accountant to assess the county’s fiscal health. His report should be finished soon, county officials said.
The move is the latest in a tug-ofwar between the supervisors and the School Board over the need for improved school facilities. Members of the School Board say the county needs and can afford a new $6.5 million high school. The supervisors say the county only can afford to spend $4 million and they have proposed to build a new intermediate school and renovate the existing high school.
The supervisors also are studying a suggestion to establish a bipartisan panel to assess the school system’s needs and to determine how best to meet those needs within the county’s fiscal guidelines.
