For the bread and cereal group, four or more servings per day is the number to remember. You can count one slice of bread, one cup of ready-toeat cereal, or one-half cup of cooked cereal as one serving.
The simplest way to incorporate good nutrition into meal planning is to use traditional meal patterns as guides. But with today’s hectic schedules, eating three square meals a day isn’t always possible. So, one of the meal planner’s biggest challenges is to remain flexible. For example, getting teens to drink the four cups of milk they should have each day may be difficult. But milk can be used in cooking, and “milk equivalents” such as cheese, yogurt and ice cream make ideal snack foods.
