Country Jessica Lange has received an Oscar nomination for her performance with Sam Shepard in this heartwarmer of a couple struggling against bureaucracy to hold on to the family farm. It will be shown this Friday and Sunday, April 19 and 21, at the Gay Street Theatre in Washington at 7:30. It’s rated PG.

County Wide Bike-A-Thon Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., has been set as the time for a county wide bike-a-thon to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital located in Memphis, Tennessee. The proceeds from the ride will go directly to research being conducted at St. Jude’s on acute childhood cancer.

Each rider is asked to secure sponsors who will commit to donating so many cents or dollars for each mile ridden. The ride will take place on the Fodderstack Road and a special ride in the Town of Washington will be set-up for younger children. For more information contact the Rev. Steven N. Opportunities For Crafters The Sperryville Antique Market has openings available for craftpersons wishing to participate in its May 4-5 “Country Sampler” Craft Show. Crafters with skills in quilting, craft painting, tinsmithing, herbs, woodcarving, stenciling, loom weaving, pottery, basket weaving, folk art, toy-making, stained glass and glass blowing are invited to join in the craft show’s activities. Herd Health Program A Herd Health Program will be held on April 20 at Eldon Farms, Woodville, beginning at 9 a.m. Calves will be vaccinated; open heifers wormed and vaccinated; castration will be demonstrated; Amy Beilis who is with Ralgro will be demonstrating how to use the'Ralgro implant; the use of Ivomec will be demonstrated; Mike Massie will talk on feeding a calf to go into the freezer; and Dr. Graves, a veterinarian, will be present to answer any questions. The morning will end with a lunch sponsored by Ralgro. Ralgro pellets and guns will be given away. The workshop will be held, rain or shine.
