New Market Battle

reenactment set

The 18th annual reenactment of the 1864 Battle of New Market will be held April 12 at the New Market Battlefield Park. Already more than 1,200 men from some 20 states have registered to participate.

The battle is best known for the heroic part played by the cadets of Virginia Military institute, who fought as a unit and suffered 57 casualties out of 247 engaged.The Battlefield Park and its museum are memorials to their courage.

The reenactment will begin at 2 p.m. and last for an hour.

World peace theme

of Baha’i meeting

The Baha’is of Fauquier County are sponsoring a youth discussion group Friday evening on the theme of world peace through the elimination of prejudice.

The discussion will focus on this sentence from the Baha’i Scriptures: “So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.”

The program will be presented by young people and is especially directed to youth who are concerned about peace.

This is one of a series of weekly gatherings held each Friday at 8 p.m. at the Hunsaker home near Marshall and each Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Denlinger
