“We started programs full-time in 1982, and since then we have had over 100,000 people participate in them,” Dooley said.
Present facilities at the center include lodging for 210 people, a cafeteria for 120 people, a kitchen, an Olympic sized swimming pool, three tennis courts, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, a softball field, a soccer field, a two and a half acre lake, a 20 station fitness trail, an archery range, a 48 stall stable with two show rings, a conference center for 600 people and three recreation shelters.
“Immediate future plans for the center include construction of an amphitheater that is being built by Front Royal and Warren County,” Dooley said. “There are also plans for a main lodge with a much larger cafeteria and classrooms, and a fund raising campaign is being launched for that.”
The swimming pool will be open from May 26 until Labor Day with a daily admission fee of $1.25 for children and $1.75 for adults. Season passes may be purchased for $65 for singles and $115 for a family pass from now until May 1. After May 1, the prices will go up to $70 and $125.
Horseback riding will begin in June, and the prices have not been determined yet. The only other cost would be to reserve a recreational shelter.
“We are just beginning our busiest season now,” Dooley said. “We stay busy all year, and we like it that way.”
