The second cycle is the violent explosion of that tension. It can be yelling but it’s usually striking out physically. The third cycle is the honeymoon. That’s when the candy comes, the flowers come, the new dryer, the new stove. And the third cycle, the honeymoon, is the cycle that gets shorter and shorter as time goes on. The tension building cycle gets shorter, too. But the battering cycle, that gets longer...And when the battering no longer relieves the tension, that’s when you’re going to have somebody dead.”
