Mr. Guest said money raised by the caucus will go into those areas, such as the 4th and 9th districts in southwest Virginia and the TidewaterNorfolk area. Mr. Guest plans another fund-raiser at his Warren County farm June 8 where the $25-per-couple entrance fee will go toward those races.
Mr. Guest took a shot at the Democratic Party, whose convention falls on the same date as his event, saying it would be “anticlimatic if not comedy.” He later asked if the Democrats were “putting forth the best candidates to fill the needs of Virginia or filling slots for special interests.” Mr. Guest cast
doubts on the unanimity of the opposition for the fall contest for control of the Commonwealth.
He labeled GOP control of the state legislature “possible but not probable,” adding there was quite a difference between 34 seats and 51. But as senior Republican on such committees as Agriculture, Finance, Conservation of Natural Resources, Roads and Internal Navigation, Mr. Guest speculated that a majority for the GOP would mean chairmanship of at least the Conservation committee for him.
