Fisher said that he agreed that a program of improving the system would be needed, but that some of the money should be saved as a buffer to be used for emergencies. The rate increase discussion was tabled until the next meeting, but council did vote to raise the water system tap-in fee for new users.
The fee is now $250 for someone who moves into town and has to have pipes laid to have town water. Noting that other localities have tap-in fees in the thousands of dollars, Wickens asked for a $1,500 fee. After some discussion, the fee was lowered to $1,200 and was unanimously approved.
Other Business
In other business, the council discussed the need to fix street signs in town. The wooden signs were put up 10 years ago, but were repaired three years ago. “They should last longer than three years,” said Miller.
