Dorothy Butler's third grade class at Rappahannock Elementary School took a field trip to Mount Vernon on May 3. The following a re some of the students' accounts of the experience:

On May the 3rd we went to Mount Vernon. On the way to Mount Vernon we saw cannons. When we got there, we saw the home of George Washington.
We went through the home of Mr. Washington. The Coach Compartment was shiny and wooden. The Coach House and Riding chair was all wood. The tomb had a hard shield to keep the people from touching the tomb, and Mr. and Mrs. Washington rest in peace.
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732. He died in 1799. Martha Washington was bom in 1732. She died in 1802. When the Washingtons died, the home was taken over by some ladies.

George Washington was bom on February 22, 1732. George’s first child was Augustine, and Mary (Ball) Washington, bom at the family place on the Potomac River in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He died in 1799.
