Assistant Superintendent Tom Campbell said that there are eight buses now being used by the system that are either 10 years old or older, or have more than 100,000 miles on them. “There’s no question of the children’s safety, but rather the thought of the need for more repairs as a bus reaches that stage,” Campbell said. The board decided to reduce the allocated funds for two buses by $1,000 in the hopes that the bids received will be less than or equal the budgeted amount.
Nichols then asked about reducing salaries for administration officials. “My feeling is that anyone who is not in contact with the children, we should consider cutting their salaries or doing away with some administrative positions before touching teachers,” Nichols said.
