“I know of tin signs that have been on buildings in town for 49 years,” said council member Wallace Critzer. Other members said that those signs were not attractive, and Charles Eldred, a resident of the town, said that the signs were not practical.
“Street signs are not put up for town residents, but for travelers,” Eldred said. “Those signs may be quaint, but travelers are not accustomed to looking for street signs on buildings.” Miller said that he would not recommend relying solely on the building street signs, but at some time he would like the present signs to be restored.

The council also granted the Washington Fire Department permission to use the town for booths and fundraising events on the Fourth of July. The council’s next meeting will be on June 12 at 8 p.m. in the courthouse.
