The town is not only the first to receive the najne of Washington, but it is also comes first at the museum. “I named this the ‘First Washington’s Museum’ because I wanted it to be for the people and a way to preserve the town’s and county’s past,” Miss Jenkins said.
This year, the museum has electrical lights, but there is still no heat. The museum’s season is limited to the warm days from May 1 to October 15 or whenever the temperature begins to drop. There are no set hours, but Miss Jenkins leaves a note on the door directing visitors to her home whenever she is not at the museum.
“There’s never any need for appointments,” Miss Jenkins said. “Visitors are always welcome.”
Writers’ Guild
Widening Writers’ World is the theme of the conference sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley Writers’ Guild May 18 at Lord Fairfax Community College, Middletown.
The program includes a panel discussion by three established professional writers.
