this week against the Chesterfield Lacrosse Club from Charlottesville. The Wakefield team was able to keep it a close match during the first half, but the larger-sized Chesterfield team pulled away during the second half and defeated Wakefield 11-1. Wakefield Coach Peter Quinn noted that his team had shown a “big improvement” over last year when they lost to Chesterfield by more than 20 points.
The Wakefield team closed the season with seven losses and one win. The win, against Woodberry Forest, was the first victory ever for the team.
Classics Awards
Wakefield School is pleased to announce that students have won awards in three important contests.
In the National Greek Exam, Sean Bennett of Boston, Virginia earned a blue ribbon for his near-perfect performance, scoring 36 correct out of 40. Third place green ribbons were won by Lisa Larimer of Front Royal, Theo Larrieu of Manassas, Nicholas Longerbeam of Berryville, Ed McGushin of Haymarket, Brad Pendergraph of Haymarket and Macon Uskurait of Boyce.
