Broiler pnces received by producers are likely to increase during the next few weeks as retailers gear up for summertime purchases which traditionally begin Memorial Day.
Virginia Crop Reporting Service records show the monthly average price received for broilers by Virginia producers was higher in June than in May during four of the past six years.
Slaughter continues at increased rates. During the past five weeks, 6 percent more broilers were slaughtered in the United States than during the same period last year.
